In view of the tons of beverages available at the supermarkets, it can be a bit of a challenge to make a heart-healthy choice. It’s true the health of our ticker isn’t completely in our control, but some elements are, eating right being one of them. Your diet affects the heath of your ticker. For good heart health, your diet should comprise plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fish containing the heart-healthy omega-3s, including tuna, mackerel and sardines. Aside from your diet, what you drink affects your heart health as well. What we drink doesn’t strike us that much when we talk about diet as much as the things we eat. This blog aims to discuss some drinks that can put the health of your ticker in jeopardy.
Outlining some beverages you
should avoid or, at the very least, consume in moderation to keep your heart in
good shape:
Energy drinks- We often
resort to drinking these to boost our energy, but the more you consume energy
drinks, the more you are at risk of heart disease. So next time you go to the
store to purchase a can, just beware. You might be at the receiving end of
increased blood pressure and abnormal heart rhythms.
Soda- The high sugar content in
soda is what poses a threat. According to research, sugary drinks have been
shown to increase heart disease risk, thus making you prone to heart attacks.
Limiting your consumption of soda and other sugary beverages is integral to
maintain good heart health.
Coffee- Intake of coffee in excess
(six cups or more than that) can increase the fats found in blood, thus
increasing your risk of heart disease. It is a good idea to replace coffee with
herbal tea to keep the health of your ticker intact.
Alcohol- Alcohol abuse or too much
alcohol consumption is a major heart disease risk factor, and can also lead to
many other health issues. Cut down on your alcohol consumption to preserve your
heart health.
Milkshakes- The reason
milkshakes put you at a higher risk of heart attack are its two components
namely, sugar and saturated fat.
If you are looking at
something healthy to drink, there’s nothing like green tea. You may feel green
tea is overrated, but it isn’t. The benefits of drinking green tea regularly
are numerous, one of which is it helps repair damage done from heart events
like a heart attack or stroke, plus, it helps lower bad LDL cholesterol, helps
with weight loss, boosts brain function, prevents cancer, keeps skin problems
at bay, and increases lifespan.
