Cardiac
arrest is a life-threatening situation which strikes people all of a sudden,
anybody can get struck with it. The best way to deal with cardiac emergencies
is by getting trained in the indispensable CPR procedures which is a
combination of chest compressions and rescue breaths. First-time healthcare
providers should go for a BLS class Tampa in which students will get to learn about how to apply proper chest
compressions and rescue breaths, how to use an AED device, how to use a
bag-valve mask for performing rescue breaths, how to handle choking victims, so
on and so forth. There are courses for both healthcare as well as
non-healthcare providers. For training always go for an accredited training
center, if you are a resident of Tampa, you can enroll for a program at the AHA
accredited CPR Tampa in the Florida region where certified instructors conduct
the classes through a series of audio and video lectures and hands-on practice.
Apart from
the resuscitation techniques of chest compressions and rescue breaths, in the
CPR classes training is also imparted on how to use the AED device. AED stands
for Automated External Defibrillator which involves application of electrical
shocks to the chest of a cardiac arrest victim, this is referred to as the
process of defibrillation. Defibrillation is a sure-shot way which can revive a
cardiac arrest victim. The process of defibrillation helps in normalizing the
heart rhythm thus helping in a cardiac arrest victim’s survival.
Sequence For Use Of An AED:
When you
come across a cardiac arrest victim or a victim involved in the middle of a
cardiac emergency:
1. Ensure safety of yourself, the victim
and the bystanders.
2. Carry out the adult BLS sequence
which involves application of chest compressions and rescue breaths in the
ratio of 30:2:
·
If
the victim is unresponsive and breathing abnormally or the breathing is absent,
send someone for help to get hold of an AED device. (These days most public
places such as restaurants, shopping malls, cinema halls, etc stores AED
devices so that the general public can find the device easily and are able to
save the life of the victim on hand)
·
If
there is nobody around, use your mobile and call for the emergency medical
services, try not to leave the victim alone.
3. Start the CPR as per the adult BLS
sequence. If you find an AED device, immediately start off with the process of
defibrillation.
4. With the arrival of the AED:
·
turn
on the AED and attach the electrode pads on the victim’s bare chest;
·
if
there are more than one rescuer, CPR should be continued while the electrode
pads are being attached to the chest;
·
after
turning on the device, follow the voice instructions;
·
make
sure that no one is touching the victim while the AED is analyzing the rhythm;
·
If
no shock is indicated, right away resume CPR in the ratio of 30 compressions to
2 rescue breaths and continue as directed by the voice prompts;
·
If
a shock is indicated, push the shock button as directed and immediately restart
CPR in 30:2 and continue as directed by the voice prompts;
·
Continue
with the process of defibrillation until the arrival of emergency medical services,
the victim starts to wake up or you become exhausted.
